At the end of the lease agreement, equipment should be returned in accordance with the terms of the lease. Customers should contact their local Customer Service Centre, who will check the lease terms and advise which depot has been nominated for off-hire. The following information will be required:
- Unit number(s)
- Desired location
- Last cargo carried in the container (tanks)
The Customer Service Centre will issue a return reference, for the return of the unit. Please note: this reference is only valid for one calendar month. Once expired, a new reference must be requested.
Before off-hire of a tank container, customers must arrange for the tank to be cleaned. The off-hire depot will need proof that the tank is clean. This could be the cleaning certificate issued by a third party inspection company or a wash-note issued by the cleaning station. This MUST contain the proper shipping name of the cargo, and the UN number (where appropriate) of the cargo that has just been cleaned.
Once the unit has been returned to the depot, it will be inspected for damage in accordance with GE SeaCo's inspection criteria. Refrigerated units will additionally undergo a post-trip inspection to assess the condition and repair requirements of the refrigeration machinery.
When a repair estimate has been completed, a Damage Notification will be issued, providing an estimate of any items that will be allocated to the customer's account. This does not apply to customers with SeaCover who have some or all of their costs covered in accordance with the SeaCover agreement.
Once the damage notification has been issued, you may opt to inspect the container before authorising repairs.
To survey the unit, contact the depot and arrange with a survey company to carry this out. After the survey is complete, you will need to approve costs, to allow GE SeaCo to repair the equipment.
Please contact the your Customer Service Centre with any queries.
