Regional palletwide containers

GE SeaCo's fleet of palletwide containers offers its customers the choice from one of the widest range of units available, each tailored to meet specific operational requirements for the carriage of palletised cargo.

Left to right: A 40ft hi-cube palletwide container being transferred from road to rail wagon. 30ft bulk palletwide container with four loading hatches in the roof and a letterbox discharge hatch built into the left hand L-shaped door. A 40ft palletwide container in Perth, Australia.

Designed for palletwide operations, the unit's increased internal width allows two pallets (up to a maximum of 1200mm wide) to be loaded side by side. Intermodal operators using these units can now compete with truckers who, until the introduction of palletwide boxes, had an advantage over operators using 8ft-wide containers.

For shippers of break bulk cargo not currently using pallets, these units offer an increase in cubic capacity and a significant advantage over standard 8ft containers. As a rough guide there is a minimum of 3.6% extra cubic capacity when comparing units of a similar size representing an additional freight ton per 20ft of length.

Until SeaCell came on to the market, palletwide containers were generally restricted to regional use, as it proved operationally impractical to operate palletwide containers deepsea. SeaCell's unique design has overcome all of these difficulties and palletwide containers can now be used worldwide without problem. Using existing infrastructure the units can be stowed in cellguides and on close deck fittings as any standard ISO container.

GE SeaCo's fleet of palletwide containers and swapbodies is sub-divided into four separate sections - Europe, Australia, SeaCell and Swapbody.
